For boar artificial insemination stations, rapid and accurate semen quality testing is essential before semen dilution, packaging and distribution. SpermPro portable veterinary sperm quality analyzer simplifies semen analysis for lab staff. This tutorial will walk you through the full operation procedure for boar semen testing.
 
Pre-Test Preparation
 
Prepare your SpermPro unit, compatible Android tablet or Windows PC, counting slides, pipette, semen sample and semen extender.
 
- Ensure the device is connected via USB 3.0 cable
- Keep the lab temperature between 10–35°C, avoid condensation and direct sunlight
- Warm the boar semen sample to recommended temperature before testing to prevent sperm shock
 
Step 1: Sample Dilution
 
Boar raw semen needs proper dilution before detection.
The recommended dilution ratio for boar semen on SpermPro is 1:9.
Take 90μL boar semen + 810μL semen extender, mix them gently and evenly.
 
Note: Different livestock species have different preset dilution formulas in the system. Do not use boar dilution parameters for cattle, horse or sheep samples.
 
Step 2: Load Sample onto Counting Slide
 
Use the pipette to draw a small amount of diluted semen. Drop the sample onto the dedicated counting slide.
Place the counting slide carefully into the sample slot of SpermPro.
 
Step 3: Start Automatic Sperm Analysis
 
Open the SpermPro software on your connected tablet or PC.
Select species: Pig.
Click capture button. The machine will automatically take video of sperm movement.
The built-in algorithm will calculate key kinematic parameters:
 
- Total sperm count
- Motile sperm percentage
- Progressive motile sperm percentage
 
Step 4: Check & Save Test Report
 
After scanning finishes, you can view the full test report directly on screen.
Save the test video and report to the built-in database for batch archive and traceability.
If needed, export the report for your breeding station records.
 
Step 5: Clean the Equipment After Test
 
After finishing detection, remove the counting slide.
Use the cleaning stick included in the packing list to clean the optical lens.
Keep the lens clean, dust-free for next use. Put the machine into the hard carry case for storage.
 
Common Tips to Get Reliable Test Results
 
1. Avoid air bubbles on counting slides; bubbles will interfere with sperm recognition
2. Do not shake semen sample violently, this may damage sperm cells
3. Keep the USB connection stable during testing
